The FAFSA completion process for those without an SSN has not been without some troubles. This new update will streamline the process. Now, contributors without SSNs can immediately access their FAFSA form after creating their account on StudentAid.gov instead of waiting for ID verification. Contributors still have to manually input their tax information and verify their eligible noncitizen status.
For more information on how to verify your identity for those without SSNs, check out this guide from Federal Student Aid. And, as always, you can set up a FAFSA session with Fair Opp to work through this.
Get the word out about financial aid and post-high school opportunities with Fair Opp’s newest Counselor Toolkit! You can download easily shareable posters, flyers, and pre-made social media posts to inform students of our many free services that make the FAFSA and college applications easier.
